Introduction:

The main aim of this module was observation, the ability to analyze our fruit/vegetable, and using different mediums to transfer our fruit from the 3d world onto a 2d medium like paper.

Observation and representation:

To represent something, one must observe the object carefully and meticulously.

In order to represent a 3d object on a 2d sheet of paper, one must keep these points in mind;

FORM: In order to capture the essence of your fruit, you first need to get the shape/form right, which was fairly easy for me since I had an orange, which is basically a sphere.

Color: Next, you have to get the color right, which I found to be pretty hard since orange has a variety of colors in it, and it was pretty hard to blend all of them together.

Light: This is what changes your 2d drawing into a 3d one. Light is what gives your paintings depth and form. Light is what makes or breaks your painting

Texture: This is the final step into achieving your required painting. Texture defines how your fruit looks or feels when you hold it.

Visual Media:

Conclusion:

  • After using all of these new mediums, I realized that the medium that I thought I would hate the most turned out to be the one I enjoyed the most, which was watercolors. they were very fun to use and a lot more easier to control than any of the dry mediums that we used.

  • Not giving up after your first attempt is the key to this module. My first few attempts of watercolors got me a bit discouraged, but as I kept on trying, they got better and better to the point that I was happy with my final outcomes.

Strengths:
  • I have been using black ink ever since it was introduced to us in fvl-1, so I'm fairly confident with my ink skills.

  • Even though I struggled with it at first, I really enjoyed using watercolors

Weaknesses:
  • I really struggled with charcoal. I just couldn't get the blacks to be dark enough and couldn't get the texture right.

  • working with soft pastel was also really hard and messy. My entire sheet got ruined, and the final outcome also came out very smudgy.
