What's your instinctive approach to decision making? If you're naturally optimistic, then chances are you don't always consider the potential downsides to a decision. Similarly, if you're very cautious, you might not focus on opportunities that could open up.

However, it's easy to feel confused if you try to consider all the angles at once. And things can get even more complicated if your whole team weighs in with different points of view. But sometimes different views guide you to solve a problem unconventionally. Here we were given with six different mindsets aka Six Thinking Hats.

"Six Thinking Hats" is a way of investigating an issue from a variety of perspectives, but in a clear, conflict-free way using Lateral Thinking.

Lateral thinking is when one uses both critical as well as creative thinking to solve a particular task. However, the thinking tool used in this activity today is termed as the 6 thinking hats which was originated by Edward De Bono. A strategic routine that approaches to problem-solving by finding unconventional ways to solve a known problem.

MAIN ACTIVITY

1st PART

We made a poster explaining the importance and usage of the given color in 6 thinking hats.

2nd PART

Later we understood the principles behind the Six Thinking Hats technique and examined how it could improve decision making for our group. We chose a topic from the mystery box on which we had to then explain each and every aspect of that object based on the color of the hats.

REFLECTIONS

  • We got a clear Idea of the usage of all six hats realizing which one is the most useful.

  • Helped me getting a rich collection of insights about all hats to come up with a better decision.

  • Realizing that we have been using this tool unconsciously in our day to day activities.

  • This activity was different in many ways. Earlier, we have been using creative as well as critical thinking in all our past activities but this time we used lateral thinking, approaching a problem from a different direction to complete the given task.

MANTRA OF THE DAY

जब सीधी उंगली से घी ना निकले तो उंगली टेढ़ी कर लेनी चाहिए।
