Introduction:

The point of Essence of culture was for us to segregate between the materials and non-materials of the Culture that is around us.

Tool of Inquiry

Semi-Structured Interview:

Semi-structured Interviews are those interviews in which we have prepared questions in advance for the respondent, but the format of those can be changed or asked in a different way for a different answer. In semi-structured interviews, we are not supposed to have our own input. We are only supposed to ask the question and not have our own influence on the answers. Semi-structured interviews or any form of interviewing is a primary source of information, so we should make sure that we're asking the right questions to the respondent.

5W-1H:

5W-1H is a tool of inquiry in which we ask questions that start with Why, When, What, Where, Who, and How. This tool guides you in asking the right questions, and it also helps you in delving more into a specific topic by asking Whys and hows to that specific part of culture or media.

Conclusion:

Strengths:

The biggest strength or the easiest part about working in the EOC-2 was definitely working with primary resources, asking my mother questions about Janmashtami. asking questions for the mindmap was easy and, I knew the right questions to ask regarding the festival.

Weakness:

The hardest part was definitely the final video we had to make for the commentary log. trying to find the non-materials for the tribe's culture and Festivals was really hard since there was very little information about them on the secondary sources. also, we couldn't manage time properly when working on the commentary log hence why it didn't come out great.

Key learning:

  • I learned the importance of inquiry through primary information. Through primary information, you get to know what that festival means to that person and how information changes from person to person. one person might have a completely different view of that specific festival.

  • I also learned about the materials and non-materials of an object or a culture. Material means the things that you can see like, rituals or a bangle or any object, and non-materials means the meaning behind that object or ritual or why do we perform that ritual or how that ritual came to be.
